Moving Beyond the Vibrator: My Review of LELO’s SONA Cruise

Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of vibrators. Big ones, short and skinny ones, vibrators with ears that rotate round and round, tiny bullet vibrators – you name it and I’ve tested it. The thing I’ve found with all of these devices is despite their differences in size, shape, color, and features, they all feel very much the same. Apart from intensity, if you’ve used one vibrator, you’ve used them all.

That’s why I was fascinated when I first heard of the SONA Cruise by LELO. Unlike other sex toys I’ve tried, the SONA Cruise isn’t a vibrator – it’s a sonic massager. This means it uses sonic waves and pulses to stimulate your clit instead of relying on vibrations. Sonic waves generate sensation in the entire clitoris rather than just the external areas targeted by a vibrator. This being a completely new sex toy concept to me, I was intrigued and had to give it a try.

Unboxing the Sonic Cruise
My SONA Cruise arrived in LELO’s signature black box, giving it an understated and elegant feel. The actual device is amazingly compact – about the size of a credit card. It was cute, pink, and fit neatly in the palm of my hand. Its curves and contours made it easy to handle. It came with a USB charger, a black satin storage pouch, and an instruction manual that I briefly scanned before getting down to business.

How It Works
The device has a protrusion on it with a small concave area in it thats the ideal shape and size to reach and cup your clit. LELO suggests turning it on and applying it to the clitoris sparingly until you reach climax.

Sparingly is about right. I immediately noticed that the SONA Cruise is much more intense than the vibrator-style sex toys I’ve tried. It wasn’t too intense to be comfortable, but I quickly learned that the way to use this device is different than the rest. The sensation isn’t a buzzing one, but more of a – I guess I’d describe it as a suction-type of sensation?

Whatever you call it, the feeling of the sonic waves created by the toy quickly had me riding my own wave straight into an orgasm. It was quite different than coming with a vibrating stimulator. In the same way women get different kinds of orgasms from penetration than from clitoral stimulation, I suppose we can experience a variety in orgasms depending on how we stimulate the clitoris.

The Features
The SONA Cruise has three easy-to-use buttons that let you turn the intensity up and down, as well as cycle through the pulse settings. Because of the intensity factor, I’ve found that I don’t need to turn it far beyond its lowest setting.

I also really love that it’s 100% waterproof, making it a fantastic toy to take in the bathtub or shower. This also makes cleaning super fast and easy.

LELO also designed the SONA Cruise with a special feature called Cruise Control. This reserves 20% of the device’s power when you use it normally. When you press it hard against your clit and really work the motor, the SONA amps up to unleash the additional power so you don’t feel any loss of intensity or pleasure.

Final Thoughts on the SONA Cruise
After testing the SONA Cruise out several times, I can say that I’m happy to add it to my sex toy repertoire. It’s definitely a welcome change from the tired old vibrators of the past several decades, and I’d highly recommend it for anyone looking for a change in their solo play or routine with their partner.
