Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain — Tokyo Game Show 2014 Trailers in 1080P

I don’t know how Kojima managed it, but he’s finally come up with a Metal Gear that I’m absolutely, without a doubt going to play.

I’ve been following the game for the past year now, and with every new teaser, trailer, and screenshots, I’ve grown more excited. I was going to add a “and I mean that in a completely non-sexual way,” but that’s simply not true: I mean, just look at Quiet. I have no doubt that’s a ploy to attract male gamers, but… who doesn’t like a sexy, deadly woman that can turn invisible?

Now, I know you’re here to see trailers, not read my creepy video games fantasies, so on with the show. What you’re about to watch is not one, but three new trailers from TGS 2014. We’ve got over 20 minutes of new gameplay footage, and two cinematic trailers that I found especially interesting. You’ll also hear quite a bit of Big Boss talking. If you didn’t already know, he’s voiced by none other than Kiefer Sutherland.

Here’s the gameplay demo…

And here is Big Boss with his new… well, you’ll see.

So here’s the thing. I usually hate the word “cinematic” when it’s used to describe games, because what it usually means is that a game is more like a movie than an actual game, ie: extremely linear. That’s clearly not the case with The Phantom Pain, and yet I find myself using the term to describe its cut-scenes because, well… they’re very cinematic!

I think that’s the perfect place to add a movie flare, and these guys have done that to great effect. I’m seriously looking forward to learning more about all the characters, and that really makes me smile.
