There are lots of powerful SUVs out there but they are also on the large side which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on how you look at it. Compact SUVs and various crossovers have made a big impact on the market and they are selling like hot cakes. The Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG is already a powerful mini-SUV but throw Brabus into the equation and you get something special.
An SUV doing 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 4.4 seconds is not really a common thing yet here we have this compact GLA 45 AMG achieving such speeds and times thanks to Brabus. The stock GLA 45 AMG already produces an impressive 355 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque from its 2.0-liter turbocharged motor but with the tune from Brabus, the GLA produces 395 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The top speed is said to be a 168 mph!
The upgrade kit from Brabus also includes some goodies for the GLA 250 which takes the vehicle from 208 horsepower to 242 horsepower allowing the compact SUV to reach 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The tuning company even went as far as prepping an upgrade package for the GLA 220 CDI boosting its power to 207hp allowing it to do the 0-100km/h dash in eight seconds flat and a top speed of 220km/h (137mph). These are some pretty decent improvements when compared to the factory models.
In terms of visual enhancements, both the GLA 45 AMG and the AMG Sport model receive aerodynamic components such as a new front bumper with lip spoiler, roof spoiler, rear diffuser, new quad exhaust pipes, and a range allow wheels from 18-inch to 21-inch.
Other external components of the upgrade package includes a suspension setup which lowers the ride height by 25mm or alternatively, an off-road suspension which increases the ride height by 30mm, and LED underfloor lighting. When it comes to the interior, a number of options are offered such as anodized pedals, custom leather seats and other leather surfaces, and aluminum shift paddles.
I usually don’t like small SUVs but I wouldn’t mind driving the top ranging GLA 45 AMG by Brabus.
