We’ve been reviewing a lot of Mazda vehicles recently but the one we haven’t had an opportunity to take out for a test drive is the current model of the Mazda2. The company has officially unveiled the 2015 Mazda2 which is set to hit showroom floors in the final quarter of this year. There have been a lot of photographs circulating the web and I think most people had a pretty good idea of what it was going to look like but here are the official photos from Mazda. The Ford Fiesta and Mazda2 share the same platform and I used to prefer the Fiesta but that took a 180-degree turn with the unveiling of the 2015 model.
The 2015 Mazda2 styling is strongly influenced by the Hazumi Concept and features a lot of the styling cues from the “Kodo” design language which can also be found on the latest Mazda3 and Mazda6. In Japan, the Mazda2 will be referred to as the Demio.
The vehicle may be on the small side but it looks aggressive and is probably the best looking in its class (Ford Fiesta, Nissan Versa Note, Chevy Sonic, Toyota Yaris). The interior of the vehicle features a very clean and simple look and is available in various colors and trims. One of the highlights of the Mazda2 interior is the tablet-style touchscreen on the dashboard which is controlled by a dial. The vehicle is also available with an optional HUD (heads-up display).
Dependent on which part of the world you’re from, the 2015 Mazda2 will be available with up to three different engines when it goes on sale later in the year. This will include the 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 99hp, SKYACTIV-G 1.3-liter, and the 104hp 1.5-liter diesel SKYACTIV-D engine. All will be available in a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Mazda didn’t provide too many details but more information will be available later in the year. And chances are, we’ll be reviewing the 2015 Mazda2 once it becomes available.
