The Mazda RX-7 was a pretty popular sports car in the 90’s, that version of the car still fetches a good amount of money, if in good shape. The RX-8, on the other hand, was not so popular and was nothing like the 90’s RX-7, and in my opinion it looked absolutely hideous.
To create a bit of excitement, Mazda unveiled the RX-Vision Concept sports car at the Tokyo Motor Show, a car that could be a true successor to the RX-7.
The RX-Vision Concept is a stunningly beautiful car, with a long hood, sleek body, and low to the ground, it looks like a European sports car. The car rides on beefy looking 20″ wheels with some aggressive rubber. The RX Concept is also smaller, lower, and wider than the RX-8 and definitely has the 90’s RX-7 DNA.
The car is theoretically powered by Mazda’s next generation rotary engine, called SKYACTIV-R. The company didn’t provide any information on the size or performance of the engine, all we know is it’s called the Stig powered by a rotary engine. The interior is typical concept car, with a very minimalist approach, which would definitely not make it to production, if this car is every produced.
So Mazda, build it and they’ll come. Don’t change the styling much either, it is a beautiful design.
