Intricate Marker Murals by Charlotte Mann

When I think of thick, black felt pen markers, the first that comes to my mind is moving. No, I don’t mean in the sense of moving my ass off the couch, but instead moving houses. The black sharpies we use to mark boxes are forever connected in my mind, and that’s why I find it so interesting to see them used for art.

You see, British artist Charlotte Mann (not related to my hero, Michael Mann) uses every day thick black markers, and uses them to draw incredibly life-like, 1:1 scale murals inside of homes, the outdoors, and on the sets of fashion shows for designers like Peter Jensen. I’ve never heard of the fellow, but based on the work I see here in-front of me, well… he seems to have good taste.

Charlotte Mann’s Marker Murals

I can’t even imagine how long this must have taken Charlotte to draw. The amount of detail is incredible, especially when you consider that this was done using only felt pens. If you ask me, it’s quite a… feat.

Charlotte’s designs kind of mess with you. The world looks like something out of a story book, but then you have bits of the “real world” peeking through as well. It’s a very interesting effect.

I’m guessing this is a basement suite, and I’m happy for whoever commissioned this piece. If you look bast her incredibly artwork for a moment, and instead focus on where the white space would be, well… you’ll probably notice that this would have been an incredibly boring looking space.

Again, this is a really neat effect, enhances further by the multiple layers – the glass, and the wall behind it.

Here we’ve got the woman herself, Charlotte Mann, posing in front of a giant hedgerow mural that she created. It’s just as I’m writing this that I noticed the mountains and the little homes in the background.

Further Information

If you’re interested in seeing more of Charlotte’s awesome artwork, then you’re in luck. She has a personal website, and it’s absolutely full of her work, from murals to prints and everything in between. She seems to be quite a prolific artist, and has amassed quite the resume of pieces. What I’ve shown you here is only a handful of her work.
