Limited Edition BMW M3 CRT Sedan

BMW-M3-Carbon-Racing-Technologies

BMW unveiled a special edition of the already special M3 sedan at last week’s 24 Hours of Nurburgring race, dubbed the BMW M3 CRT; CRT stands for Carbon Racing Technologies.  The M3 CRT takes the technology from the GTS coupe and applies it to the M3 Sedan.  The M3 CRT is a showcase of the new carbon fiber technology BMW will be using in its future cars.

As the name would suggest, the M3 CRT sees quite a bit of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP); the front chin spoiler, rear spoiler, the hood, and the two front seats are made out of CFRP.  Other light weight items such as titanium mufflers, lightweight 19” wheels and less sound-deadening material make the M3 CRT weigh 99.2 pounds (45 kg) less than the standard M3 sedan, weighing in at 3,483 pounds (1580 kg).

The BMW M3 CRT is powered by the high-revving 4.4 liter V8 engine producing 450 horsepower at 8,300 rpm and 325 pound-feet (440 Nm) of torque at 3,750 rpm.  All that power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed M double-clutch automatic transmission giving the car an electronically limited top speed of 180 mph (290 km/h) and a 0 – 62 mph time of 4.4 seconds.

The exterior gets Frozen Polar Silver metallic paint with Melbourne Red metallic highlights.  The same red color is found on the two tone interior.  The M3 CRT comes with unique door panels and door sill strips, an aluminum finish on the dashboard, and Alcantara steering wheel.

Only 67 of these limited edition BMW M3 CRT sedans will be produces, no word on prices or whether these cars will be available in the Unites States and Canada.
