Kickin’ It Old School – Cruz Vintage Electric Bicycle

As time moves forward, we always tend to look back and remember the simpler times. I was born in the 80’s and I always consider my childhood simple and more enjoyable than that of today’s children. But my parents said the exact same thing when I was growing up. Of course progress is always good but some things need to be kept alive. Just looking at the Cruz electric bicycle gives me a warm feeling even though the design is way before my time.

California-based, Vintage Electric, came onto the electric bicycle scene in August of 2013 with its debut model, the E-Tracker. The model was apparently a success in the industry and they have now released their second model, the Cruz as a limited edition bike with only 50 units available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

With the same best-in-class performance as the E-Tracker, the CRUZ leads the industry with a top speed of 36mph (58km/h) in Race Mode. The electric bicycle features regenerative braking and makes use of Shimano Alfine hydraulic disc brakes which gives the rider optimum stopping power.

The Vintage Electric CRUZ also features high-quality components such as a sandcast aluminum battery box, Phil-Wood front hub, powerful LED lights, and a Brooks England Ltd leather saddle and grips.

Race Mode
The Race Mode is an optional upgrade and utilizes a 3,000 watt rear hub motor providing the rider with rapid acceleration. The battery outputs a steady 60 amps at 52 volts and combined with its light weight, the CRUZ is can be pretty quick. According to the company, Race Mode is not meant to be used on the streets. Yeah right! On Race mode, the CRUZ can reach speeds of 36mph. On Street Mode, it will reach speeds as high as 20mph.

30 Mile Range
The CRUZ features a 30 mile range on conservative riding thanks to its patent pending aluminum battery box. Not only is the housing gorgeous looking but protects the crucial components of the system including a 620 Watt Hour nickel metal cobalt battery. The design of it disperses heat effectively allowing the system to run at lower temperatures.

The CRUZ Vintage Electric Bicycle is available in three colors: Fiesta, Aqua, and Cola. The electric bike can be recharged in only two hours so commuting to work should be possible for many people. The only problem with the CRUZ bicycle is the $4,995 price tag. With that kind of money, you could be a scooter or a used motorcycle.
