Good and Bad Sides of Internet Dating

Internet dating, as well as various agencies are widely spread phenomena these days. People find them as useful tools for many reasons.  It is a great possibility for busy people, for example, to meet friends and find a partner. Internet match-making services provide flexibility in terms of time, and abundance in terms of resources.

It gives you plenty of opportunities to find a couple; you can find your soulmate with the same interests and goals. However, internet dating has its bad and good sides too.

What is Good?

  • Good thing about online dating is that you meet more people outside of your traditional community. It is usually a problem for people working and living in a community where most people are married. It also increases chances to find like-minded people. The search is based upon your interests. As the result, you find people with similar interests and hobbies.
  • Its helps shy people overcome their barriers. Shy people find it difficult to approach strangers. Women feel shy and men do not want to hear “no”. Your profile page is how you can express yourself. This is where you can write directly about your life goals. In real life people do not start conversations with discussing private matters.
  • You have an abundant choice. You get access to a huge database of men and women. You can search for a partner based not only your interests but physical preferences too. In real life, you do not have this opportunity.
  • Online communication eliminates wasted dates. You do not have to meet people you hardly know and try to make conversations. Sometimes it feels so awkward from the very beginning, that you understand it will not work anyway.

What is Bad?

  • There is no guarantee that a person you are chatting with online is really who he or she is. Unfortunately, some people tend to lie in real life and on the Internet too. Sooner or later you find out the truth anyway, but it is very upsetting to waste time and efforts. Sometimes people just “forget” to mention information that might be important to you, like having kids or being married.
  • An abundant choice makes it difficult to choose. You are free to communicate with as many women or men as you wish. However, it might be difficult to select one person when it comes to something serious.
  • Certain services place more emphasis on physical appearance. That means that they might reject your profile if you do not comply with their own standards. This does not mean that something is wrong with you. It can be a wrong picture, post or profile description.

Despite some of the disadvantages, internet match-making services are proven to be incredibly helpful.  Try your luck too.

  1. Well, from my perspective, as a guy. Even with internet dating, women still expect men to at least, have a college degree, or equivalent, to make 6 figures, or the potential to make 6 figures, and be on the way to paying off a mortgage, on a house. Without any of those, men are generally sunk, in the dating/relationship world. Maybe I’m off base, but this is has been my observation, browsing many profiles, on a few dating sites.
