I moved into this apartment about a year ago. I never painted, and though the walls are in good condition, they’re absolutely barren. In fact, I’ve never had any art hanging on the walls, unless you count the Star Wars and Matrix posters I had as a teenager…
But I’m all grown up now (at least, that’s what I tell people), and I think it’s about time I get on that. The trouble is finding something that won’t creep out my girlfriend or guests too badly. That… might be a struggle, especially since I absolutely love COMPOSITE by Melbourne based artist Jake Stollery.
Jonathan Jacques-Belletête of Deus Ex infamy calls this set “dope”, and I would have to agree. Check this out.
Oh, right… this collection isn’t exactly safe for work, so if your boss is hovering around, you may want to check this out from the privacy of your own home.
Jake describes the collection as follows: COMPOSITE is a portraiture series of work that explores the evolution of self in its interplay between organic and digital identities. Sounds about right.
Who wouldn’t want this as a statue in their home? I’m telling you, someone needs to 3D print this sucker. Jake, are you listening?
I was going to say that this is my favorite, but honestly, I think they’re all pretty great.
And we finish up with a set of these hanging in a gallery in Melbourne.
I hope you enjoyed these as much as I did, and if you’re interested in checking out more of Jake Stolley’s work, you can do so by heading over to his website and browsing around. Jake has done all sorts of neat stuff… much of it terrifying, but also quite beautiful, in a “will definitely creep out the guests” sort of way.
