Venice is famous for its beauty and history; full of winding canals and waterways, the city is synonymous with romance. And chase scenes, so screw rom-coms! Have you noticed I’ve got travel and chase scenes on the brain lately? I blame it on winter cabin fever, which has prevented me from both traveling anywhere interesting in the last two months, and has stopped me from tailing other innocent motorists in the attempt to start ‘spontaneous’ high speed pursuit. Since I haven’t been out living it, I’ve been researching some of the absolute best heart pounding, fruit cart destroying (there’s always a fruit cart,) and wantonly disregarding of public property chase scenes ever. As it turns out, a lot of them are set in Venice… so let’s do the Internet equivalent of traveling to Venice, and gleefully plan all the ridiculous action movie scenes that we’re going to re-enact the second we get there.

Over the last couple of years we’ve shown you some very unique places to stay at while you’re traveling around the world and today we would like to introduce you to Tubo Hotel, located in Tepoztlan, Mexico, just outside of Mexico City.

The Tubo Hotel is designed by T3arc Architecture and is a hotel where guests sleep in recycled concrete drainage pipes.  To keep construction costs low, drainage pipes that didn’t meet the required specs to be used as drainage pipes were bought and converted into hotel rooms.  To make better use of the available land, the concrete pipes were placed in a pyramid format, two at the bottom and one on top of them.

Until recently, I had never heard the term daycation before. I had heard of mini-retirements, and getaways, and day trips, but never daycations. If you’ve ever taken a day off work to go for a hike, or simply to explore parts of your own city, you’ve taken a daycation. In this interview, travel guru Mike Barish answers my questions about daycations and his suggestions on how to get the most out of your brief escape from the 9-5 grind.
