Details are slowly trickling out about the highly anticipated 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe. We’ve reviewed a variety of cars over the years but we haven’t yet had an opportunity to take any of the Cadillac vehicles out for a spin although that might change as soon as this 2016 ATS-V is released. I’ve always loved the CTS-V sedan but I think the smaller ATS-V coupe will also be on my favorites list.
According to Road & Track, the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V coupe will use a variant of the 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the CTS-V sport developing an impressive 450 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. The good news for true car enthusiasts, the power will be delivered via a six speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic.
The engine features a slew of high-performance technologies which allows it to develop the extra horsepower. Things such as titanium connecting rods, titanium turbines for the turbos, two water-to-air intercoolers, and even an additional radiator which is dedicated to cooling the gearbox ans electronic locking differential. It is Cadillac’s hope that by adding the ATS-V to their lineup, it will move it closer to the likes of BMW M4 and the Audi RS5. And let’s not forget about the powerful Mercedes C63 AMG. At the end of the day, it will come down to the vehicle weight, gearing, and its traction abilities which will all play a major role in determining which vehicle is the quickest around the track.
The leaked photos shows a very aggressive looking Caddy featuring a black mesh grill, heat extractor on the hood, and optional appearance package which will include a redesigned front/rear bumpers, splitter, side skirts, and a rear spoiler. The V package will also include lightweight alloy wheels featuring a twin-five spoke design and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
The interior shouldn’t see any major changes but the photos do show that the driver and front passenger will have bolstered seats, a slightly changed steering wheel with a V-Series badge, and carbon-fiber trim pieces throughout the interior. The 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe will be unveiled at the LA Auto Show which will be open to the public from November 21st to the 30th, 2014.
