It’s always interesting to see statistics on people’s opinions and behaviors, especially when they relate to a (potentially) stressful scenario, like planning a trip. I’ve written numerous articles about trip planning, and after watching this video on British travel habits, I feel that I’ve confirmed at least one thing. According to someone (probably a travel scientist), men generally think that women pack too much crap. It’s true, I do feel that way!
In addition to reminding me why I pack so lightly for each and every trip, I learned that… *drum roll*… men usually drink more on vacation! This shocking revelation nearly knocked me flat on my bottom. Honestly, I’m still reeling from the effects – the implications being wide and far reaching.
Brits Abroad: Men vs Women
Yes, I find a few of the statistics so obvious that they’re hardly worth mentioning, and chances are they don’t even vaguely reflect reality, but one of the points is quite important; make sure that you purchase travel insurance. I don’t care where you do it, whether it’s through a local broker, or an online travel insurance provider, but make sure that you get it – especially if you’re traveling to the United States as a foreigner. Injuring yourself (or getting sick) is never fun, and having to pay exorbitant medical costs on top of that will just be salt in your wounds, so to speak.
I’ve always found it easy to create a list or mental itinerary of everything I need to bring on a trip, but for some reason picking up travel insurance was always the last – and most often forgotten – item. I would purchase my ticket, guffaw at the staggeringly high cost of insurance from major airlines, and vow to pick it up at a 3rd party website or local vendor instead. Trouble was, I always forgot. That’s why I would like to conclude this post with a final item that’s invaluable to any trip; a significant other. I won’t elaborate, but they’re incredibly handy, and according to this video, you can even convince them to pack your bags for you. If you don’t currently have one, I highly recommend procuring one. Perhaps you can do it on your next amazing travel adventure?
