Bridgeman Peacoat Review: How I Banished Winter Coat Bulk and Embraced Cold Weather Fashion

I’m not a fan of winter weather. I prefer heat and humidity to freezing cold and I detest slogging through the snow. If I had it my way, at the first hint of impending snow clouds, I’d take to my apartment and hibernate with snacks until the first signs of spring (bears really have the right idea).

Unfortunately, I’m a human and hermiting yourself away for the winter is frowned upon. I do work from home, but I have to come out to – well, you know, get food and stuff, as well as hang out with my friends who don’t mind the cold. All of this is made worse by the fact that I currently live in Krakow. Don’t get me wrong; I love this city! I just wish we could do something about this whole winter thing.

The Marshmallow Man Cometh

Over the years, I’ve been the running punchline among my friends because I would perpetually show up looking like an overstuffed sausage when dressed in my winter gear. You remember the Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters? I’d walk around looking something like that.

The coat was the problem. While it was a solid, warm coat, I’d had it for several years and it was totally out of style. I looked like a 12-year-old dressed up for a winter’s day. If I wore the coat in to meet a client or threw it on over nice clothes to meet friends for dinner, it was a puffy embarrassment that I’d have to remove before people could get a proper glimpse of me.

New Style for the New Year

At the end of last year, I promised myself a style makeover, going forward. The first item of business was finding an amazing new winter coat – one that would look stylish on the street, heading to a meeting, or waving hi to a special someone as I greet her before dinner.

Enter the Bridgeman Pea Coat from Mission Workshop. I was impressed with it from the first moment I tried it on. The Bridgeman’s pea coat styling makes it an instant classic. It has a tailored look due to its stretch-textile construction. It’s a sleek option to wear over jeans and a sweater or slacks and a dress shirt.

This coat isn’t just your standard pea coat, however. It integrates the latest technology to keep you warm and dry (take that, winter!). Its Swiss-made, three-layer, waterproof fabric makes it insulating, wind-resistant, and waterproof while still being comfortably breathable. The Swiss know winter…and they definitely know style.

The Bridgeman is topped off with a convertible funnel collar that looks just as good loose and open as it does buttoned up tight. Three zippered pockets mean that I always have room for my wallet, keys, and anything I need to carry along.

Best New Year’s resolution ever, you guys. I still hate winter, but having a high-quality, high-fashion coat has made it infinitely better.
