BMW 4-Series Coupe

Those of you waiting for the all-new BMW 3-Series Coupe will be disappointed; there will be no more 3-Series coupes.  Don’t go jumping off buildings, the 3-Series coupe is still alive but now it’ll be called the 4-Series and BMW has just released pictures of it ahead of its official debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show and they’re calling it the 4-Series Concept.

BMW is calling the car a concept (for now) but the car is pretty much a production-ready model; we do expect some changes on the road-going version when released.  The rear bumper on the production model will be more conventional and the interior will not come with the over-the-top leather treatment seen on the concept car.

BMW 4 Series Coupe front fascia

The BMW 4-Series is a pretty good looking car, its design seems to be a mixture of the new 3-Series sedan (F30) and the 6-Series.  The front fascia is aggressive like the 3 Series, which I really like and the car has a long hood with short overhangs.  The BMW 4-Series is 1.1” (29mm) longer, 1.7” (44mm) wider, and 0.6” (16mm) lower than the car it replaces with overall measurements at 183” long (4,641 mm), 72” wide (1,826mm), and 54” high (1,362mm).

BMW didn’t provide any other details but we expect the 4-series to come with similar/same engine choices as the 3-Series.  We’ll update this post once more information is available.

  1. i’m on my second 3 series (2005, 2008) and don’t quite understand the concept of deleting the 3 coupe for a 4 but hey… i can’t afford any more bmw’s anyway. sadly, they’ve skyrocketed out of my reach but i still love to visit the showroom to smell the leather. even dirty and sporting a couple scratches, i still thrill when approaching my ride in my garage or a parking. even someday when i’m driving something else, i’ll remember the fine times i’ve had behind the wheel of my 3s. though i prefer my 05, they’re both a sweet ride and i’ll never complain about either. as for those who can afford a new bmw… i say good for you! and happy driving. don’t ever take it for granted.
