Volkswagen has presented their sixth generation of the Transporter Van series. Their latest creation is the T6 van which has a history dating back 65 years and close to 12 million units being built since its inception. The Volkswagen T6 van is supposed to be all-new but closely resembles the outgoing model, the T5 van. Although the overall shape appears to be the same as the T5, the T6 has sharper lines, new LED headlights and rear taillights which can also be found on the Tristar Concept I wrote about a while back.
Like its predecessors, the new Volkswagen T6 will be made for both commercial and consumer use with the company releasing a number of variants of this van. The T6 will also feature some interior touches which we first saw on the Tristar concept such as a more modernized interior with features like the 6.6-inch screen for its infotainment system.
Other touches that will make it on to the Volkswagen T6 include a new heated windscreen, Front Assist area monitoring system, an electrically operated tailgate, the new adaptive chassis control system called Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) which offers three different driving modes (comfort, normal, and sport), and adaptive cruise control (ACC).
The VW T6 will be powered by a new generation of 2.0-liter TDI diesel engines (EA288 Nutz) which were launched for the EU6 markets which come in 83hp, 101hp, 148hp, and 201hp options. There is also a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine available in either a 148hp or 201hp variants.
In celebration of the new T6, Volkswagen is also offering a limited edition ‘Generation SIX’ which is based on the Multivan Comfortline passenger model and it will feature LED lights, chrome details, 18-inch alloy wheels, a two-tone Alcantara interior, and four different two-tone paint jobs.
The all-new Volkswagen T6 Transporter Van will be priced the same as the previous T5 or slightly lower according to the company. The commercial models start at €23,035 in Germany while the Multivan will start from €29,952.
