Being an excellent golfer does not happen by chance. Look at any great golfer and you will be seeing a person who has spent hours on the golf course working on their game. Whether it is their driving or putting, they do the work.
To become an awesome golfer, you need to have an awesome mindset as well. If you lack the mindset, your skills go to waste even if you had the potential to become a legend in the sport. Here is advice for you to go on and become a great golfer in your own way.
Find The Right Grip
You can’t use a grip everyone else is using on the golf course. Each golfer has their own personal way of holding the golf club. It involves their physical traits, mindset, and comfort. So, what is the right grip for you?
There are three options: interlocking, Vardon, and ten finger grip.
The interlocking grip emphasizes a person that does not have strong forearms and needs more leverage from their shoulders. You will be holding the hands together as you drive with the club. It does work for most people who have small hands and gives them real control.
The Vardon grip is the most common and is seen when a person places their pinky (trailing hand) between the index and middle finger of their leading hand. It is a nice and easy grip which provides great leverage.
The last grip is the easiest one and more for a beginner who just wants to hit the ball. The hands are separate and beside each other. It leads to less accuracy, but more power.
Find your own grip and what is comfortable because it will change your game immediately.
Keep The Spine Upright
You cannot be bending back or forward when swinging the golf club. This is how the ball veers off to the side as you swing. Keep an upright posture and then bend at the knees. This is how you begin the swing and raise the golf club.
Work on this on the golf course.
Drive With The Hips
It is your core that will provide the most leverage. You often assume it is the arms, but it is your entire core that is activating and bursting through as you swing. Stand on the golf course and pay attention to your core while you swing.
Try to almost push it through as you swing. It will feel like you are trying to hit the ball with your core in essence.
Use the advice to become a meaningful golfer who is able to assess their weaknesses and improve upon them. Golfing requires dedication and if you put in the time, you will get something special out of it.
Don’t give up and certainly do not assume it will be straightforward. You will need to get cracking on improving your swing, approach, and, of course, your mindset. When you have it all worked out, you will understand what your peak potential really is.
Until then, keep working hard and improving who you are as a person and as a golfer.
