The All-New Lincoln Continental Concept

Ford has recently started to spend money on refreshing their luxury division, Lincoln, with so-so results. The company is hoping to make a complete turnaround with the introduction of their luxury flagship sedan and by bringing back an old name to life, the Lincoln Continental.

Although the car shown here is called the Lincoln Continental Concept, a production version will go on sale in 2016. The Continental concept will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show.

The Continental Concept is a very handsome looking car from most angles, it borrows design elements from other luxury sedans but then again, who doesn’t. To me, the front end of the car doesn’t look right; the combination of the new front grille design, which consists of a very large polished aluminum mesh area, and the LED matrix lights (which are reminiscent of Acura lights) just doesn’t do it for me. Other than that, I really like the design of the Continental, but I do have to question the very liberal use of chrome on the exterior. I know our American friends love their chrome, but the 1960’s have come and gone a very long time ago, it’s time to move on.

The headlights are LED and come with laser-assist high beams; the taillights on the other hand, look great, featuring something Lincoln calls “light through chrome” technology. I’m not sure what that means, but it kind of sounds cool.

The interior is very luxurious looking, but again, it’s overdone with the excessive use of chrome. I can see myself getting into an accident on a sunny day because I was blinded by the sun’s reflection from all that chrome.

The interior uses high quality materials like Venetian leather on the seats and door panels, and Alcantara on the door panels, dashboard, headliner, and seat inserts. The rear features a pair of reclining seats with built-in stands for laptops. The rear passengers also have control over the audio system and climate control. The car features a glass roof with smart glass that can be tinted at the touch of a button.

Lincoln didn’t provide much information on the engines that will be offered on the new Continental, all we know is that a 3.0 liter EcoBoost engine will power the car. The company might offer a V8 at a later date, but that’s just speculation on our part.
