5 Basic Riding Gears for Motorcycle Riders

With great power, comes great responsibility especially when it comes to riding a 200hp supercharged beast on 2 wheels. It goes without saying that you shouldn’t go out riding your motorbike on any day unless you wear a proper gear. Don’t forget, being safe isn’t just about you but the people around you as well. Here are 5 basic and important gears you should own.

1 – Jackets for your Body

Contrary to popular belief, you can have fun, look good, and stay safe at the same time. As a rider, you do not have to compromise on style. There is a wide range of motorcycle jackets for men that would catch your eye but very few actually protect your body from serious harm. Investing in a trivial item such as a motorcycle jacket may seem senseless but a good jacket is the only thing that will have your back in a fall. Literally!

2 – Protect your Head

It may seem unimportant to put on a helmet that could potentially ruin your perfectly styled hair. But what would you prefer? Having a scalp with hair, or a damaged head? There are many different types of helmets out there varying in levels of protection and purpose. If you fall or get knocked off your bike in the path of a car, the only thing protecting you would be your helmet. Other body parts may heal soon but you won’t be able to ride with a brain damage.

It is crucial that you, as a rider, invest in a good quality, durable and well-cushioned helmet. These may be expensive but nothing is worth more than your life. If you don’t have a protective helmet, don’t ride till you get one. Borrow one from your friend if you have to but do not go out riding without one.

3 – Eyewear

Although the visor on your helmet protects your eyes, some people choose to purchase ones without a visor, such as a jockey or half helmet. In this case, I highly recommend you purchase a pair of goggles for your eyes. You don’t want to skid off the road and hit something or someone because you got something in your eye, do you?

Clear visibility is the most important thing while riding a 2 wheeled speed demon. Try purchasing an eyewear that goes around the head, so it doesn’t fly off at high speeds or falls off your nose on every bump you hit.

4 – Riding Gloves

Trying to stay in control of a 500-pound metal monster can make even the most experienced motorcyclists break a sweat. Now that is nothing to worry about except when your palms get sweaty and lose their grip. Motorcycle gloves are made for this purpose; give you the best grip possible. You should read a comprehensive buying guide for the perfect motorcycle gloves.

5 – Pants and Protection
The most overlooked gear by bikers is a pair of pants. Offering different levels of protection, there is something for everyone. There are pants with shin and knee guards stitched into the fabric offering the best protection. These kinds of biker pants could protect your limbs from breaking or even getting severe road rash from falls. This may seem like the last thing you would choose to invest in but you will be surprised and be grateful for the purpose and protection the right pair of pants can give.
