Staying active is key for a long, healthy life, but it can be difficult to get enough exercise in these busy times. The stresses of work, school, and a social life can interfere with our ability to get to the gym to work out. However, there are some small things you can do to promote activity in your everyday life without going to the gym. Here are 3 simple tricks that keep you moving and won’t require an expensive gym membership.

Walk Whenever Possible
If work is within walking distance, you should consider making it a habit to ditch the car and walk to work whenever possible. If it is too far and requires you to drive, make it a habit to park as far away as possible to force you to get some steps in before you start your work day. Find a lunch place within walking distance and walk to lunch whenever you can. You’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll feel just from walking on a regular basis.

Exercise in the office
During downtown at work, stand up and perform some bodyweight squats or pushups. You can even do triceps dips on your desk. You don’t need have fancy equipment to perform highly functional, beneficial bodyweight exercises. Make it a goal to do a certain amount every day, and when that becomes easy, increase your number.

Play with your kids
If you have kids, you know that they love being active. Don’t just sit and watch them play – get involved! You may feel goofy climbing on a jungle gym at a playground but it will provide you with some much needed motion and exercise, plus your kid will enjoy having mom or dad by their side!
