It has been a couple of years since Land Rover presented the world with a couple of pictures of the Range Rover Evoque convertible. I thought the concept had died, but it’s still alive and kicking and is ready to hit the show floors of upcoming car shows and dealer showrooms soon after.
The Evoque convertible is based on the three-door Evoque, and features a fabric top, which maintains the shape of its fixed-roof sibling when it’s up. The top can be raised and lowered at speeds of up to 30 mph and it takes 18 seconds to lower it, while 21 seconds are needed to bring it back up. According to Land Rover, the noise level inside the cabin, when the roof is up, is on par with the 5-door Evoque.
The Evoque convertible is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, producing 240 horsepower, power is sent to all-four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
In return for top down driving, the Evoque does lose out on cargo space and gains a hefty chunk of weight, which is because of reinforcing the chassis. The Evoque convertible weighs 595 pounds more than the three-door fixed-roof Evoque, we’re expecting it to be quite a bit slower than the “coupe” version.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will go on sale in mid-2015, with prices starting at $51,470 in the United States.
