The “other” American motorcycle maker is what most people would call Indian Motorcycles. But I do like the company a lot more than H-D, for some reason. Indian Motorcycles is bringing back one of their classic bikes, the Scout.
The original Scout motorcycle was in production from 1929 to 1949, and was a race winning machine, winning many races including the first ever Daytona 200 in 1937. The Indian Scout also set the land speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967 at the hands of Burt Munro, giving the bike the title of “the world’s fastest Indian”, there’s also a 2005 movie about it with Anthony Hopkins.
The new for 2015 Indian Scout does have a very eye-catching design, it looks very classy. It features a single seat that’s covered with vintage brown leather. The bike comes in red, black, or matte grey with black engine covers and twin chrome exhausts; the matte grey is my personal favorite.
The 2015 Indian Scout is powered by a liquid cooled 1,133 cc V-Twin engine (first ever liquid cooled Indian engine) producing 100 horsepower and 71 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent through a 6-speed transmission and stopping is achieved with anti-lock braking system.
The Scout is the lightest bike in its class, but still weighs a hefty 562 pounds. The bike has a 61.5” wheelbase and the seat is 25” from the ground, and the bike comes with a 31 degree lean angle.
The 2015 Indian Scout will be available at dealerships later in the year with a starting price of $10,999. Via: Indian
