XploreAir X1 Paravelo – World’s First Flying Bicycle

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the Parajet SkyRunner, an all-terrain flying car which is available for a $120,000. If a $120k is out of your reach but you are willing to downgrade a bit, then consider the XploreAir X1 Paravelo which is a supposed to be the world’s first bicycle that can double as a flying ultralight para-trike aircraft.

Just like the numerous “flying cars” we’ve seen, the XploreAir unfortunately requires a bit of setting up before you can take to the skies. The XploreAir comes with its own backpack which contains the “wing” that has to be carefully deployed before take off. Perhaps a few decades from now we can have something that instantly takes flight with a simple push of a button.

The XploreAir is powered by a two-stroke gasoline engine which will help you achieve speeds of 25mph while in the air with a maximum range of 75 miles. The craft is equipped with a three-blade carbon fiber propeller. This flying bicycle is designed to cruise at “fairly low” altitudes and you should not attempt to go any higher than 4,000 feet. That altitude may not be as high as other flying craft but what other bicycle cruises at 4,000 feet?

And you’re guaranteed to turn heads as you cruise around town in bicycle mode while you haul its large propellers behind you. The vehicle is four feet wide so probably a good idea to stay off the sidewalks. The XploreAir may look large but it can actually fold right up and fit into the trunk of your vehicle and only weighs 75 pounds. No word on what the weight limit is for the pilot of the craft. You can also detach the bike and air frame trailer and wear the powerful motor on your back to do a foot launch. This mode allows for better performance while in the air and you can take off in more windy conditions.

The wheels on the XploreAir measure in at 20-inches while the frame for the craft is made of high-grade aluminum. The craft can take off on most surfaces as long as there is a suitable open area to get going.

The XploreAir is available for $45,000 and more information can be found at the XploreAir website.
