Watch Dogs – Dark Clouds Interactive eBook

I like to think of myself as a voracious reader, but I’m very particular about what I read. I spend a lot of time researching authors and books before diving in, and though this may not be the best way to go about it, this system has worked pretty well for me so far.

So when I heard – or rather, saw – that Watch Dogs would be doing a sort of Interactive eBook for Watch Dogs, and by John Shirley of all people, I was intrigued.

(Actually, that’s a giant lie; I had never heard of John Shirley before, and “video game books” are usually terrible beyond words, but work with me here.)

Johny Shirley you say? Yes, the one and only… cyberpunk legend (apparently) and lyricist… he actually wrote 18 songs for Blue Oyster Cult, and that part isn’t even bullshit. Go figure!

Dark Clouds Over Dark Clouds?

It’s still strange for me to see a trailer for a book, but hey, this is the digital age. So here’s a trailer for Watch Dogs: Dark Clouds. I want you to pay close attention to the music, because it’s pretty great. The rest is mostly forgettable, and we’ll touch on that afterwards.

Great music, right? I’m really looking forward to hearing the entire score when Watch Dogs arrives on May 29th. I expect great things.

But this interactive eBook, well… consider me skeptical. Though the world of Watch Dogs seems super interesting, a book about it that’s a “techno-thriller with like, a bit more, like… research and stuff, you know… to give it like, an edge” doesn’t exactly fill me with excitement.

I’m going to be completely honest and say that I’ve never read any of John Shirley’s books, but given his previous works, I have little hope that Dark Clouds will be any different than the glut of terrible video game books on the market. I’m going to read it, though, and I’m doing it for you guys.

Expect a full review of Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs: Dark Clouds when they arrive.
