Updated Ford Edge – Improved Design And Smarter Technologies

When I was working for a car rental company a few years ago, one of my “go to” vehicles when I had to take care of office errands was the Ford Edge. It was a spacious SUV but it drove like a car and I thoroughly enjoyed the steering and throttle response. The interior was easy on the eyes and had a great sound system. And now, looks like Ford is making it even better with the introduction of the 2015 Ford Edge. The vehicle looks very similar to the Ford Edge Concept but in my opinion it actually looks better than the concept.

The updated 2015 Ford Edge features new technologies which enhance safety and comfort for consumers. Technologies such as adaptive steering system, improved active park assist, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake input, glove box-mounted airbag system, 180-degree front camera with washer, hands-free liftgate, and rear inflatable seat belts.

all-new Ford Edge

The 2015 Ford Edge will be available in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Sport, and the Titanium. Ford is also offering three different engines worldwide. The first is the standard twin-scroll 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder producing 245 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 which is expected to produce over 300 horsepower while the third engine being offered is the 3.5-liter V6 (non-turbo) and producing an unspecified amount of horsepower. All three engines will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. All models will also be available in either all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive.

The new Ford Edge also gets a redesigned suspension setup which was developed to isolate imperfections of the road and absorb excess noise. The body of the 2015 Ford Edge is also 26 percent more stiff thanks to the use of high-strength steel in the body.

The adaptive electric steering I mentioned earlier allows the Edge to be more maneuverable and provide a more dynamic ride. This is Ford’s attempt at making the Ford Edge more appealing to the global audience and not just here in North America. The 2015 Ford Edge will launch in the US in early 2015 and soon after will be launched in Europe, Asia, and South America. No details yet on the starting price but we’ll update once we know.
