It’s hard to imagine traveling now without a smartphone. From Google Maps to Google Translate (or other similar apps by competitors) it seems almost impossible to function in this area now without it. And why go back in time and stop using it? Instead, utilize this technology to the best of your ability. We’ve compiled a list of the top travel apps you need to really enjoy your time abroad, and not only that but apps that can just make your life so much simpler.
Kayak
This is the first app on this list because you can’t travel if you don’t have flights or a trip booked. Of all the different travel searches out there Kayak is pretty comprehensive and has some great features that others, like Expedia or Orbitz, don’t have. Typically the prices it pulls up are real and not ghost prices, and you can also search for airlines, such as more budget airlines, that other searches won’t pick up on.
Uber
Although Uber is great for where you live as well, it can come in really handy when you’re traveling if you have WiFi, because sometimes cities don’t always have great public transport or you’re in a hurry. Definitely an app you should invest in if you don’t already have it.
TripIt
TripIt is one of my favorite apps because it keeps all of your bookings in one handy, easy to read and use place. All you do is when you make a booking, whether it’s for a flight, a hotel or a theater production, you simply forward it to plans@tripit.com and it adds that to your itinerary with all of the necessary information such as time, date, location, booking confirmation, terminal, seat, etc. It’s almost like magic. No more worrying about losing your email confirmation and not having your information.
Google Maps
Apart from the obvious, Google Maps can actually save maps offline so you can access those city maps or maps of wherever you are without data or WiFi, which is great because usually when traveling you don’t always have access to those things. You can save as many apps as you like and it’s beyond useful and you won’t be getting lost anytime soon.
XE Currency
Currency is something that a lot of people struggle with when traveling, especially if it’s a tough one where one dollar equals several hundred of whatever the local currency is. XE Currency is awesome because you can add all the different currencies you want and it will save the exchange rate offline so you can input any number into any currency and it’ll tell you what that equals in all the currencies you have listed. No more overspending by accident.
