Open Sesame: Sesame The Smart Lock

As a fan of technology, I’m loving all the latest gadgets being pumped out of factories in China. I’m also a car lover and I enjoy the gadgets available in the latest automobiles, I’m a big fan of stuff like voice command (which a lot of old people hate), Bluetooth connectivity, and proximity keys.

I really like the idea of proximity key because I don’t have to dig through my pockets to get the key fob to unlock and start the car (I know I know, first world problems). The thing that annoys me though is when I get home, my house key is connected to my car key, which I have to take out again in order to unlock the door. If only there was a way to unlock the house door without a key…

There are solutions to my problem, such as phone controlled locks, but you still have to take out your phone and find the app and then unlock the door. Now the Sesame lock by Candy House is something a little different. Sesame is not available for purchase yet, as it’s being crowdfunded on kickstarter currently, the goal of $100,000 has already been met though.

The Sesame lock is different from other “smart locks” because of its hardware and software. You don’t need to drill new holes in your door or replace the existing deadbolt. The Sesame lock is simply placed on top of the existing lock opening mechanism and that’s about it. To open the door, you can use a secret knock, tap on your phone, or take out the phone and then use the app to unlock the door. There’s also a Wi-Fi option that lets you remotely open the door for friends and family.

Speaking of friends, you can assign access to your friends via the app and the app even lets you know who is accessing the lock. The Sesame lock comes with military grade AES 256-bit encryption, so you don’t have to worry about the lock being hacked.

For a pledge of $99 (or early bird pledge of $89) you can get the regular Sesame lock or for $149 (early bird $139) you can get the Wi-Fi equipped model.
