No Seconds: Death Row Prisoners’ Last Meals in Pictures

This may seem weird but I’ve often thought about what my “last meal” would be if I knew my time on this earth was running out. I enjoy too many types of foods to narrow it down but if I was to have an ultimate meal, it would consist of spicy butter chicken with naan and rice, chicken/lamb souvlaki, filet mignon, two ice cold cans of Pepsi, a snickers candy bar, and twin-wrapped Raspberry mini-cakes you can get from the gas stations. Don’t judge, it’s my last meal!

Now, have you ever thought about the people on death row and what kinds of meals they’ve had? I recently read that some states are no longer offering a “special meal” and instead are serving what every other non-death row prisoners are having. Basically, crap cafeteria food.

Photographer, Henry Hargreaves, recreated the meals of death row prisoners in his series No Seconds. We’ll have a look at 13 different “Death Row Prisoners’ Last Meals”. Does what you eat say anything about the type of person you are? Maybe, maybe not. I think you may notice that there is a lot of fried comfort food in the pictures below such as fried chicken. I suppose it makes sense considering the inmates are trying to find whatever comfort they can in those last few bites. What these prisoners did was obviously wrong but it’s still interesting to see their thought process when it comes to food despite the fact they  know death is just around the corner.

Of course, if I knew I was really going to die, there is no way in hell I could I stomach any food.

Now while you browse through these pictures, think about the last meal you would have. Let us know in the comments section about your epic meal. I’d love to hear what you can come up with. Click on the pictures to enlarge.
