If the animated movie “Cars” had the Porsche 356 Speedster as one of its characters, it would look something like the roadster pictured in this post. The car in question is the Dutch-built Carice MK1 roadster, and it’s all-electric.
The Carice MK1 is a cute little car, something that might appeal more to the ladies than the gents, or even kids. The car has a happy personality, with its large eye-like headlights and somewhat of a smiley face and small overall proportions, makes this car look very cartoonish.
The MK1 is built around the idea of a lightweight classic roadster; it doesn’t even come with a top, just a cover to place over the interior in case of rain. The car weighs only 772 pounds, which includes the battery pack. Lightweight doesn’t necessarily mean high speeds though, because under the hood are a choice of some pretty weak powertrains.
The base model is offered with a 5 horsepower electric motor, that’s not an error, “five horsepower”. Step up to the more powerful motor and you’ve got yourself 20 HP under the hood, but if you must have more power, you can always opt for the top of the line 53 HP motor. So yeah, it’s going to be slow cruising, but hey, at least you’d look cute ;-). There are also two battery packs available; combine the larger battery pack with the 53 HP motor and you’ll be able to reach lighting fast speeds of up to 62 mph with a range of 124 miles. I don’t even want to know how fast the 5 HP model goes.
The Carice MK1 electric roadster will see an initial batch of 10 cars with prices starting at €22,000 (or about $30,000 US at today’s exchange rate) before taxes. Via: Carice
Having a car that appeals to women isn’t necessarily a bad thing 😉 Honestly, it’s so fun looking, I would be anxious to see what next year’s models have to offer in horsepower!
