BMW M4 Convertible

When BMW (or any other major carmaker) announces a new coupe, there’s almost a 100% chance a convertible will follow. Last year BMW unveiled the M4 Coupe (formerly known as M3 Coupe) and now here’s the all-new BMW M4 Convertible.

The new M4 is quite a good looking car, in my opinion, it comes with an aggressive front end, a large hump on the hood, and wide fenders to differentiate it from a regular 4-Series. The convertible keeps all of those design elements and adds in a folding hard top that can go up or down in 20 seconds and at speeds of up to 11 mph.

Under the hood is the same 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-6 engine found in the M4 Coupe, producing 425 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed M-dual clutch automatic gearbox. With the manual, 0-60 mph is achieved in 4.4 seconds, that time is dropped to 4.2 seconds with the dual-clutch automatic.

Convertibles are heavier than their coupe counterparts, and since the M4 uses a hardtop, the weight difference between it and the coupe is significant. The M4 Coupe with the 6-speed manual weighs 3,530 pounds while the M4 Convertible weighs 4,055 pounds, a difference of 525 pounds!! Making the M4 Convertible a very heavy car, but according to BMW, the 2015 M4 Convertible weighs 90 pounds less than its predecessor (the M3 Convertible).

The 2015 BMW M4 Convertible will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show this month; sales will begin in the summer of 2014 with prices starting at $73,425 in the US.
