Zap&Go Charger – The 5 Minute Charger

Smart devices have changed our day to day life whether we like it or not and the things that bother us seem to be silly issues like the drained battery on our phones and tablets. Seems like the smarter the device, the faster the battery drains although things are starting to change. While we wait for super-fast charging phones, there is a crowd funding campaign going on to help develop Zap&Go Charger.

The Zap&Go Charger has an emphasis on portability and speed. The device features a 1500 mAh supercapacitor which can take in enough energy to be able to fully recharge an iPhone in seconds as an example. The idea here is to use a supercapacitor to recharge a phone rather than a battery pack. But there is one issue with supercapacitors. The current ones are made using double wound aluminum foil and a supercapacitor sufficient to fully recharge an iPhone would need to be the size of a soda can and weigh about one pound which is too bulky.

The solution is to replace the aluminum with a new advanced carbon material called graphene. Graphene is more conductive than aluminum which allows the foils inside the capacitor to be thinner and much lighter. The way this company has designed the Zap&Go Charger, their new graphene supercapacitors are small, light, and inexpensive enough to be manufactured to compete with other chargers on the market. The company has also developed a new type of power supply as the current power supplies would not allow for enough power into a charger in a matter of five minutes like the Zap&Go.

The charger is designed to charge any type of device that has a standard 5v USB port which includes pretty much all of the major manufacturers. The Zap&Go Charger is pretty simple to use and is available with all international power plugs. Simply plug the device into a power socket and the lights on the Zap&Go will illuminate as the device takes in 1,500 mAh of charge into its graphene capacitor. This process will only take up to five minutes from zero to 100% charge and you’ll hear a confirmation sound once it’s fully charged. This is enough juice to charge an iPhone 5 from a dead battery to 100%, a Samsung Galaxy S5 or iPhone 6 to 75% charge, or an iPad Air to 50% charge.

The company is hoping to have the Zap&Go Charger hit the market by October of 2015 and the early bird special is $99. For more details, check out the Zap&Go Indiegogo page.
