Why you shouldn’t take shampoo bottles in your checked luggage.

Checked luggage is the bane of any flight and to be perfectly honest I endeavor to NEVER have to check a bag if I can help it. Short layovers can mean your bag arrives hours to days later than you do. Having no clothes, toothbrush, or shampoo with which to clean up after your day of traveling. There are a myriad of little things that make traveling a little bit more comfortable and having all of your toiletries in a travelable package makes this whole process more streamlined.

The solution to this is, of course, having a way to carry your shampoo, conditioner, sunscreen, moisturizer, face wash, or any other number of vitally necessary things when it comes to looking and smelling your best after a long trip is to have TSA approved amounts of your favorite products.

I picked up a neat little gadget called a Gobout. It is a single container holding 5 small containers with a pump which allow you to carry the necessities with a convenient pump for each one. The lid is magnetic to keep the individual pumps safe from being activated in your bag and covering your clothes with your favorite tea tree oil infused PH balancing shampoo. Best of all it’s refillable and will allow you to customize each 3.7 oz. container with labels both pre-printed and blank.

At the end of the day, I can’t say that I miss having to put each bottle of shampoo and conditioner into large clear gallon bags for each one. Placating the TSA is the last thing anyone wants to do while they are planning the pack list for their beach vacation.

Shampoo bottles are secondarily a huge source of plastics and even the smallest things we can do to help reduce our plastic waste is one small step closer to a better world.
