Last year we wrote about the Urwerk EMC watch, a watch that comes with an Electro Mechanical Control (hence the name); the watch comes with a built-in electric device that checks the accuracy of the mechanical movement. This is the first time a mechanical watch comes with a built-in accuracy checker, normally you’d need to connect the watch to an external machine to check how accurate it is.
Now Urwerk has released a new version of the watch, called the EMC Black. This new version still comes in the same 41mm wide x 51 mm tall x 15.8 mm thick steel/titanium case, but now it has been DLC coated, giving the watch a more serious look. Other than the new exterior finish, nothing else has been added to the watch.
The Urwerk EMC Black comes with four subdials on the angular case: there’s a subdial for the minutes and hours, one for seconds, a power reserve meter, and the accuracy gauge. The watch features a lever to charge the capacitor for checking the accuracy. The front and back of the watch are covered with AR coated sapphire crystal. The watch is powered by a mechanical movement with 80 hours of power reserve and is water resistant to 30 meters, not that you’d want to take this masterpiece anywhere near water.
Like the previous version, the Urwerk EMC Black watches are limited to 55 pieces and are priced at 118,000 Swiss Francs (about $126,000 US at today’s exchange rate). Via: Urwerk
