We’ve previously written about one or two twin-charged vehicles, vehicles which are not only turbocharged but also supercharged; but never triple-charged vehicles, which features twin-turbos and a supercharger. The Audi RS5 TDI Concept is one such vehicle, and it’s a diesel.
Diesel engine are usually found in slower cars that are more focused on fuel-economy rather than sportiness, these engines are also found on trucks, semi-trucks, and other heavy equipment. But Audi has been working with diesel engines for a while and started putting them in their race cars and they’ve been kicking ass at endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The RS5 TDI Concept celebrates 25 years of TDI cars and will be unveiled at the Leipzig Auto Show in a few days. The car is powered by a 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 diesel engine that benefits from an electric supercharger to reduce turbo lag. The engine produces 385 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The hp figure might not seem impressive, it’s 65 hp less than the gasoline RS5, but the torque number is very impressive and is an increase of 236 lb-ft over its gasoline counterpart.
The Audi RS5 Diesel reaches the 62 mph (100 km/h) mark in 4.0 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The 0-62 mph time is 0.6 seconds quicker than the gasoline RS5. Via: Audi
