Nowadays cars seem to get bigger and fatter, cars that started life as sub-compacts decades ago have now evolved into mid-size cars. However, there are some cars that stick to their roots, like the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata.
As light as the new 4th generation Miata is, Mazda decided to make even lighter versions of the car, in concept form, and brought them to the SEMA show in Las Vegas.
The two concepts are the MX-5 Spyder and MX-5 Speedster. The MX-5 Spyder concept is for daily use, as it comes with a bikini-top, which is there just in case of rain. The car comes with a bit of carbon fiber aero trim, including front chin spoiler, side sills, and chin spoiler on the rear bumper. The car rides on lightweight 17″ wheels and has a curb weight of 2,301 pounds.
The MX-5 Speedster concept is a more hardcore version of the little roadster, with carbon fiber seats and doors, and a wind-deflector instead of a windshield. The MX-5 Speedster concept rides on 16″ RAYS wheels and weighs in at 2,078 pounds. Both cars are powered by the 2.0 liter 4-cylinder SKYACTIV engine, which produces 167 horsepower, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
