‘SBU V3’ Self-Balancing Unicycle by Focus Designs

I’ve never been on a Unicycle but I know for a fact that I would miserably fail and do a few face plants into the concrete while attempting it. Knowing how dangerous it would be for me, I never even bothered trying to get access to a standard unicycle.

But now that I know about a unicycle that requires minimal skills on my part, it would be pretty cool to test one out. The SBU V3 Self-Balancing Unicyle is perfect for those that lack coordination skills. The company which created this started with two guys working out of a garage and now they’ve got some pretty cool projects in the works.

The SBU V3 Self-Balancing Unicyle is precision crafted by hand using 6061 alloy and the ultra-portable unicycle is capable of moving a person weighing as much as a 325 pounds. That’s pretty impressive but also another excuse for the large, lazy folks to not move on their own since this device requires no pedaling.

With the SBU V3, you use natural leaning motions to control the unicycle similar to the Segway. Lean forward to go while leaning back will slow you down or bring you to a compete stop. The device also features regenerative braking and torque-control at the granular level along with Turn Assist and Smart Sense. The SBU V3 utilizes multiple 3-axis accelerometers and gyros. With this technology, the SBU V3 “learns” your motions and performs multiple safety calculations every second you use the unicycle.

It takes a person with no experience about 30 minutes to get the hang of things. If you’re ready to cough up $1,795, check out Focus Designs for more details.
