Fans of the fast minimalist cars like the Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow rejoice, now there’s a new car available in this category. Unfortunately, it’s way too expensive to relevant, with prices in the $700,000 range… yeah, you could buy a couple of Italian supercars for that kind of money.
The vehicle in question is called the Quantum GP700, built by an Australian company called Quantum Performance Vehicles. Unlike the two similar vehicles mentioned above, the GP700 packs more ponies than most (or all) supercars available in the marketplace today.
The Quantum GP700 is powered by a 2.7 liter 4-cylinder engine with a pair of superchargers, producing 700 horsepower and 482 pound-feet of torque, sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The GP700 weighs only 700 kilograms (1,540 pounds) and does the 0 – 62 mph (0 – 100 km/h) sprint in 2.6 seconds (claimed) and reaches a top speed of 174 mph.
With it’s light weight and massive spoilers, the GP700 is a G-force producing maniac. At 174 mph, it produces 2.5 G and can theoretically be driven upside down on the ceiling, like an F1 car. In slow corners, it produces 1.9 G and in corners taken at 112 mph, it produces 2.5 G, when the brake peddle is fully pressed, the car produces 2 Gs. These are pretty impressive numbers, but at $700k they better be, you do get full track support at certain tracks around the world (I believe that’s included in the $700k price).
Quantum Performance Vehicles also promises a more affordable version of the GP700 at a later date.
