Porsche has been churning out all sorts of flavors of their 911 sports cars, the 911 GT3 RS being the most flavorful street version of the car. Porsche also participates in all sorts of racing series and today we get our first look at the Porsche 911 GT3 R, for the GT3 racing series.
The cup racing GT3 uses the same 4.0 liter flat-6 engine found on the street-going car, but it does produce a little over 500 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential constant-mesh gearbox.
Where the GT3 R differs from the street car is its weight, Porsche engineers took great steps to reduce weight. As expected, the interior is completely gutted and has no luxury items, sound deadening materials, and comes with only one racing carbon fiber seat. The car tips the scale at 2,689 pounds (1,220 kg).
The Porsche 911 GT3 R also benefits from better aerodynamics pack, most noticeable is the rounded front and rear bumpers, with the front having a smaller opening for air intakes. At the back there is a massive spoiler, measuring 78 inches (2 meters) wide and 15 inches (40 cm) deep. The GT3 R’s wheelbase has also been stretched by 3.2 inches (8.3 cm) for better weight distribution. The brakes are also upgraded, the car is equipped with 380 mm front discs with 6-piston aluminum monobloc calipers and 372 mm rear discs with 4-piston calipers.
The Porsche 911 GT3 R will be available to customers in December and is priced at 429,000 Euros for European customers, no word on availability and pricing for North America.
My oh my….I want to like this beauty so badly due to its slightly stretched curves, lack of side vents (which the vents are present in the street GT3 RS and GT3 RSR GTE/GT2 racer), and usual 4.0 Flat-6; unfortunately, it’s just another (FIA) GT3 car, meaning all power but all weight (in contrast to the less powerful but faster GTE and the very agile though deceased GT1) and commonly profitable (all money, no true aero or speed).
