Limited Edition Jaguar XKR-S GT

To celebrate 25 years of Jaguar’s R Performance brand, the automaker will be unveiling the Jaguar XKR-S GT at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The XKR-S GT will be only limited to 30 vehicles and all are headed to the North American shores for once. The GT edition is based on the XKR-S which still features the same 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 550 horsepower and six-speed automatic transmission. To differentiate the Jaugar XKR-S GT from the other models, Jaguar has given this special edition a racing-inspired aerodynamics kit featuring a very hard to miss carbon fiber wing.

According to Jaguar, the bodykit on the XKR-S GT is able to achieve a downforce of 320 lbs. The front carbon fiber lip helps extend the front bumper by 2.3-inches while wheel arch extensions and carbon winglets improve the airflow movement around the vehicle providing better cooling for the engine and brakes.

Other additions to give the Jaguar XKR-S GT a more aggressive look include vents in the hood and a rear diffuser in carbon fiber. The vehicle still has a top speed of 186mph just like the XKR-S but the 0-60 mph is improved from 4.2 seconds to 3.9 seconds because of the aerodynamic enhancements.

Thanks to Jaguar’s experience in developing the F-Type, the XKR-S GT now feature new suspension arms, wheel bearings, bushings, and a rear sub-frame design which are all inspired by the Jaguar F-Type. The GT version also has upgraded height-adjustable dampers as well as a 52mm wider front track. This limited edition Jaguar also features a faster steering rack which is borrowed from the F-Type.

The Jaguar XKR-S GT features carbon ceramic brakes which is also a first for Jaguar with 15.6-inch front discs and 14.9-inch in the rear which allowed the car to shed 46 lbs of excess weight. The vehicle also receives limited edition 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli Corsa tires developed just for the XKR-S GT. With only 30 units being produced, the Jaguar XKR-S GT will be the most rare ‘R’ model by Jaguar’s R Performance division.

According to Jaguar, the XKR-S GT will be available for $174,000 USD …..if you can get your hands on it. Chances are, they are have already been sold before even making this  grand appearance. Overall, the vehicle looks great but that huge wing doesn’t seem to belong and gives it a tacky look for such a premium vehicle. Do you guys like it?
