Greubel Forsey GMT Tourbillon Watch

Since I like to read and sometimes write about some of the finest luxury watches from around the world, I’d like to think I know about most of the watch manufacturers but sometimes even I come across a manufacturer that I’ve never heard of before.  In this instance, the luxury watchmaker is Greubel Forsey and their latest watch, the Greubel Forsey GMT Tourbillon.

The GMT Tourbillon is an amazing watch and I’m glad I stumbled upon it; it has a very unique feature that I’ve never seen before on a timepiece.  The main feature of the Greubel Forsey GMT Tourbillon watch is the 3 dimensional globe placed at the 7/8 o’clock position.  The globe is surrounded by a disc that has 24 hours of the day marked on it; the hours between 18:00 and 6:00 represent nighttime and are on a dark background while the hours between 6:00 and 18:00 represent daytime and are on a light background.

Greubel Forsey GMT Tourbillon Side

The globe actually rotates in a counter-clockwise direction (natural rotation direction of earth) as time passes and does a complete rotation every 24 hours.  GF placed a small window on the side of the case to let light in on the globe, it lets light shine on the part of the earth where it’s daytime while the part of the globe where it’s nighttime is dark.  So if it’s daytime in the USA, the continental Americas will be shown brighter on the globe while the other side of the globe will be dark; this is a very cool feature.

Above the globe, the watch dial features a second time zone dial at the 10 o’clock position which features a quick set pusher at the 10 o’clock position on the case.  The main time indicator is placed at the 1 o’clock position on the dial and features an hour and minute hand; a small sub-dial for seconds is placed at the 3 o’clock position of that sub-dial or 2 o’clock position of the watch dial.  The 72 hour power-reserve indicator is placed at the 3 o’clock position of the dial and the tourbillon is placed at the 5 o’clock position.

The Greubel Forsey GMT Tourbillon case is made out of 18 karat white gold with a black alligator strap with a gold clasp.  The watch measures 43.5 mm x 16 mm and features sapphire crystal on the front, back, and the side window; all treated with AR coating.  The watch features 436 parts and beats at 21,600 vph.
