Sure, it’s okay to meet a woman at a bar or a club, but it’s a pretty awful place to bring her on a first date. You won’t get to know her any better and what’s worse, you’re going to be surrounded by drunk a-holes trying to swoop in on your thing. Still, showing her that you’re a grown up means planning something better than “getting together” or “hanging out.” That stuff is for boys, not men, and you want to be a man. So take her out on a date. It’s 2012 and the economy isn’t that great, but there are still a bunch of things you can do on any budget that will give you time to get to know one another while also keeping both of you entertained.
Bowling alleys aren’t just for old fat guys named “Mel” and their blue-haired dates named “Flo.” It’s a great place to bring a lady on a first date for a variety of reasons. First of all, bowling alleys are cheap. You won’t shell out more than $30 on a bowling date. It’s also casual, meaning that you don’t have to make a big deal out of dressing up or putting on airs. Plus, there’s always the prospect that you can saddle up behind her and “help her with her form.” If you suck at bowling don’t stress. It can still be fun for both of you, but if you get tired of it, feel free to head off to the pinball machines or play some video games. Similar dates include mini golf, the driving range or a pool hall.
Just about every city of any size has an arts night these days, at least during the warmer months. If you and your girl are both into art, this is a great way to have a first date. You can either take in stuff that’s actually worthy or having some fun making sport of what hipsters consider “art” these days. The best part of this is that you have the opportunity to interact with one another without any pressure on either of you to be at the center of attention. Hardcore art nerds should just bite the bullet and head off to a museum or gallery. There are generally free or cheap nights at those places, so you can end up having a date for absolutely nothing.
If you and your date are both into physical activity, hiking is the perfect first date. You can enjoy each other’s company or you can just appreciate nature and the walk, whatever seems to come most naturally. Plus, the scenery means that you’re never going to run out of things to talk about. The best part of this date, other than the fact that it’s free, is that you and your date can get hot and heavy in the woods if it comes to that.
Just asking a girl over to hang out is strictly high school. Asking her over to create a meal with you is a whole other matter. Trying to accomplish a common goal always brings people together. You can also win big points by showing her you know how to cook. You won’t be out anything more than the cost of food, which will be a lot cheaper than taking her out to dinner. She’ll also remember it a lot longer.
Car shows are like art galleries. You’re surrounded by incredible works of art – they just aren’t mounted on canvases. This makes for way less pretension. If you think that women aren’t into car shows, think again. Not only are lots of chicks just into cars for their own sake, there are even more women interested in cars because it’s something fun they used to do with their dad as a kid. Another one for the free file -it’s rare for car shows to have an entry fee.
Even if you don’t like sports, sporting events can be a good first date. Baseball is perfect, due to the slow, lazy pace of the game that allows a lot of time for chatting and getting to know one another. Lots of cities have minor league ball clubs where the players work their asses off for minimal pay. Two rules: Don’t drink more than she does and don’t take her to the game of a team she hates. This might be the most expensive date on the list, but you can easily do it for under $40 for both of you.
Like most people, there are probably tons of tourist traps in your city that you wouldn’t mind taking in, but never seem to find the time. Well, a date is a great opportunity to do that. It might be a little on the corny side, but it’s corny in a very cool and endearing way that your lady will love.
Dinner and a Movie Tips
For a variety of reasons “dinner and a movie” is a pretty weak first date. Still, if you’re going to do it, do it right. Take her somewhere unusual — the local TGI Friday’s is a really piss poor place for any date, let alone your first. You might also want to substitute live theater or the opera for a movie. It’s a little more original. Get all this done under $50 if you know how to do to it right.
First Dates Are Important
The first date will set the tone for the rest of your relationship with this woman, so you want to get off to a good start. You want to say that you’re a grown man, not a kid who wants to watch a DVD or play Xbox. Be smart about where you take her on the first date — you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
