I’ve been interested in solar energy for a very long time, with advances in technology, it seems solar power is becoming more popular and financially viable. Since I live in a townhouse, installing solar panels on my place is an impossibility but I have been looking into smaller scale solar charging. But I’m not sure if forking out $100+ would save me enough money in electricity charges to offset the initial cost.
One of my recent finds is the, now funded kickstarter project, Ginko Solar Tree. Ginko is a small portable solar panel device that uses the sun’s rays to charge your iPhone or iPad. It not only charges these devices during the day but it also comes with a 4,000 mAh lithium battery pack to store electricity for later use.
The Ginko Solar Tree takes its design inspiration from Japanese Ginko trees and comes with three large leaves (solar panels) that fold into each other for easy storage and shipping. The Ginko is made out of eco-friendly plastic and bamboo, reducing impact on the environment.
The Ginko Solar Tree solar charging system is a pretty cool little device, I’m not sure how long it will take to recoup the $119 you spend on the device though. But you can feel better about doing a tiny part in saving the world. The other downfall, in my opinion, is that it only works with an iPad/iPhone. [Buy It]
