How to Flash a Smile that Will Open Doors

One of the first things people will notice about you is your smile- unless you don’t smile at all, then you probably won’t be noticed.

A great smile is key to winning. You may not know this, but smiling is one quick way to gain a likable personality. People with attractive personalities often get what they want; from that dream job, to a pass from the receptionist. Sometimes, with a smile, you can get away with a warning instead of a parking ticket.

So how can you get this smile that opens doors?

1. See a dentist

While a smile can work wonders, it’s not much use if your teeth are quite unattractive to look at. Start by seeing a dentist. According to Dr Cecilia Luong of TigerSmileDental, you should see a dentist at least once every year. However, if you have problems with your teeth, once every three to four months is necessary. A dentist can advise and correct any anomalies in the way of a good smile.

2. Good grooming

Now that you have something to work with, ensure you look after your teeth. Brush twice daily; in the morning and at night before you sleep. Avoid too many sweet foods that can wear away the surface of your teeth. Most acidic substances we eat, form phosphoric acid which tends to dissolve the enamel (white part) of the teeth and cause tooth decay. This is why you should brush regularly with a fluoride toothpaste.

3. Remember to floss

This should probably come under ‘good grooming’, but I want to emphasise the importance of flossing so a paragraph is necessary. Most toothbrushes are not designed to penetrate the crevices in our teeth, and as a result, some food particles escape cleaning. It is essential to floss after every meal to remove bits of trapped food, or they will start decaying and cause bad breath. In extreme situations, they could lead to cavity formation.

4. Avoid risky teeth habits

Over the years, we tend to form habits that pose more harm than good. For example, trying to open a bottle of beer with your teeth could be dangerous. Or indulging in ‘macho’ activities like pulling heavy stuff with your teeth. Even some foods have been known to chip the teeth. Having a good smile means caring for your teeth. If they are sensitive, there are toothpastes designed to ease the pain. Another way to care for your teeth is to avoid physical fights. Well, if you must participate in the sport, ensure you have on a strong teeth guard.

5. Have a positive frame of mind

Smiling comes easy when your mind is free of doubt. It is true what they say about positive thinking, the right attitude can shed off loads of negativity. When you are in a tight situation, smiling can reduce the weight, by half at least. This should open your mind to solutions on how to wiggle your way through. There are ways to do this though, smiling sheepishly could earn you weird stares from people around- you know what I mean.
Everybody is capable of a nice smile. As long as you remember these tips, you should be able to flash a killer smile anywhere and get away with it…hopefully.
