Paper Quilling the Body – Anatomical Cross-Sections by Lisa Nilsson

When I was a child, I spent much of my time creating incredible works of art using only crayons, construction paper, and tape. Most of my projects would center around construction paper homes or weapons – the latter being the most interesting. Looking back, I regret my artistic methods a little bit. What I should have been doing is rolling up paper in a process called “quilling” to produce incredible works of art like these anatomical cross-sections by Lisa Nilsson. My creations would likely have been more terrifying and certainly not spiritual like hers, but hey,

Awesome Traffic Light Art By Roman Tyc

Czech artist, Roman Tyc, a member of the art group Ztohoven, modified 48 traffic lights in Prague by replacing the standard red/green figures to display more than simple walk and stop actions. After the modifications to the lights, the figures now show more interesting actions such as urinating, drinking, being hanged, walking a dog, and even taking a dump.

The general public embraced is as a fun prank and was even awarded top prize at ‘Austria’s Sidewalk Cinema Festival’ in Vienna but the authorities had other ideas. Roman Tyc was handed a hefty fine and had to pay for the repairs. The artist agreed to pay for the repairs but was sentenced to 30 day in prison for refusing to pay the fine. In protest, his supporters signed petitions to have him released from jail and blacked out the heads of traffic figures throughout Czech Republic to make them appear as if they had been decapitated.

ROA Street Art – Europe Bound

I’ve never used a can of spray-paint in my life, and I’m not a talented artist by any stretch of the imagination, but what I do have is a solid appreciation for street art. I think it started when I read about Banksy years ago in a William Gibson novel, and eventually I came to enjoy it more and more.

Today I bring you an incredibly awesome collection of street art animals from an artist known as ROA. If you’re asking yourself “is that the same

Daddy Long-Legs Mural in Seattle, WA

After having spent some time in the Belize jungle last year, I could use some time away from long legged, creepy crawly creatures. Though I realize they’re an essential part of the ecosystem, I would still rather view them fondly from a distance. Thankfully, it seems I’m in luck – I can get the best of both worlds.

Seattle artist and science illustrator Marlin Peterson recently completed a massive mural on the roof of the Seattle Center Armory, in the shadow of the Space Needle. It’s so big that a person can easily see it from the top of the

Drywall Furniture: Redecorate the House WITH House

Numerous guys over the years have told me that if it didn’t mean girls would be instantly terrified, they would make all their own furniture out of whatever they had at hand. Were it not for the eternal quest for sex, many man caves would still be sporting the cinderblock-milk-crate-wire-spool-chic of the guy who just can’t be arsed to care. While shabby and handmade decor is enjoying a Renaissance thanks to hipsters and the “I can totally make the cutest pencil holder out of this juice box a hobo peed in” Pintrest crowd, what happens when you don’t have any materials at hand?

Take a cue from artist Scott A. Carter and make drywall furniture. Out of your walls. You don’t really, need those, do you?
