Audi RS7 Sportback

Many car and Audi enthusiasts have been complaining about Audi not bringing the RS6 Avant to America, including yours truly.  I guess we’ll just have to settle for the 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback because Audi said it’s coming to North America.  Yay!

The Audi RS7 Sportback looks like it really means business and onlookers should be able to tell there is something special about this car.  The car backs up its looks with some serious muscle under the hood.  The RS7 is powered by a 4.0 liter TFSI V8 engine producing 560 horsepower (412 kW) and 516 pound-feet (700 Nm) of torque.  Power is sent to all four wheels with Audi’s Quattro AWD system via an 8-speed automatic transmission.

What’s more impressive is the fact this heavy beast can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).  Like other Audi RS cars, the top speed is raised to 174 mph (280 km/h) with the Dynamic Package, and 190 mph (305 km/h) with the Dynamic Package Plus.

According to Audi, the 2014 RS7 Sportback should get 24 miles per gallon (9.8 L/100 km) on the combined cycle; I highly doubt that, I would expect mpg in the teens.  The RS7 does come with cylinder deactivation or Cylinder On Demand (COD), a system that shuts off 4 of the cylinders when the engine is under low or medium load.

The 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback rides on 5-spoke 20” wheels or optional 21” wheels.  Behind the wheels sit a set of massive brake discs measuring 390 mm or optional 420 mm carbon ceramic brake discs.  The car is equipped with a sport suspension with comfort and dynamic settings, and the car can be lowered by 0.79 inches (20 mm).

I think the 2014 RS7 Sportback is a pretty cool looking car with an aggressive looking front that should scare people looking in their rear view mirrors.  The car comes with lots of power and Audi’s famous AWD system, so it should be a lot of fun on twisty roads and long straight highways.  The interior is simple and luxurious with 4 bucket seats that should keep all passengers firmly in place, even in hard corners.
