2013 Shelby Ford Focus ST

I’m already pretty excited about the Ford Focus ST and the Fiesta ST which are expected to be excellent pocket rockets but when I found out that there will be a Shelby package for the Focus ST, I pretty much crapped my pants….until I found out about the lack of upgrades. When you think Shelby, cars that come to mind are usually the Mustang or the legendary Cobra, not a hatchback.

The Shelby package for the Ford Focus ST will be limited to 500 units per year and come with a price tag of $14,995 plus the cost of the vehicle itself. A very pricey package if you ask me, especially since the Shelby package includes no enhancements to the engine. The Focus ST is a great performer but an additional $15k better get me something other than a Shelby sticker!

What the Shelby Focus ST does get is a new suspension setup which lowers the ride height, larger brakes, new alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, and a Borla exhaust system. At least the Borla system will make it sound faster than it actually is.

Okay, so the Shelby package is a little more than stickers but still not worth the money in my opinion. And speaking of stickers, the Shelby package offers three graphic visual options such as the traditional Shelby stripes, competition decals, or Shelby checkered flag splash. The Shelby Ford Focus ST also receives a functional vented hood, front and rear grill inserts, Shelby lettering, and a hydro-carbon rear spoiler. The interior of the vehicle gets a Shelby branded custom interior which includes a unique shifter and a Shelby CSM badge.

And under the hood, where it matters most – the only changes are the Shelby accents in hydro-carbon. The company is apparently in the process of developing an optional performance tun which is expected to significantly increase the horsepower for the Shelby Focus ST. Of course, that tune will be an additional charge on top of the Sticker Shelby Package.
