Rascasse Supercar By Montecarlo Automobile

Here is an interesting vehicle and company that most people have never heard of and are putting some very expensive vehicles on the road. Montecarlo Automobile, founded in 1983, is Monaco’s first car maker. The company was founded by Fulvio Maria Ballabio who is a race car driver and engineer.

Montecarlo Automobile is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013 and to celebrate – the company has unveiled the Rascasse. The Rascasse supercar features a removable roof panel, is limited to only 15 units, and will have a starting price of $660,000.

Named after the famous Monte Carlo circuit corner, the Rascasse supercar is powered by a modified version of the BMW 5.4-liter V12 engine which was used in the 1998 Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph. Unlike the original BMW 5.4-liter engine, the one in the Rascasse produces a respectable 500 horsepower. The vehicle runs on both gasoline and hydrogen-enriched LPG.

Italian LPG specialists, BRC, helped Montecarlo Automobile in the dual-fuel capability. Although only limited to 15 units, the company already has plans for a more powerful version of the Rascasse which will utilize a hybrid system, supercharged version, and also an all-wheel drive option. No details are yet available on top speed or the 0-60mph times.

At certain angles, the car definitely has a very Ferrari Enzo and F150 feel to it but of course it’s not as sexy as the Italian super car. The interior of the vehicle is also pretty awful unique looking and might get it confused with the interior of a luxury powerboat or a small yacht.

It’s great that small companies are producing exotic sports cars but it would be even greater if they could manufacture something nice. Do you guys like it?

  1. The body shell is OK but definitely resembles an Enzo. The interior made me want to don a sailors cap and shout “Full steam ahead”. What on earth is all that planking about?!?
