Makeup Routine for Young Sensitive Skin

Dealing with sensitive skin at a young age can be difficult. Covering up with makeup may irritate your skin. Makeup may clog your pores, making your skin oily. If you suffer from dry skin, makeup can make your skin look flaky. With acne-prone skin, makeup could be the culprit behind your breakouts. Whether it be dry, oily, or acne-prone, there are ways to outsmart your sensitive skin!

Here is a simple makeup routine to make your sensitive skin look flawless.

Start Off Clean

Rather than applying new makeup on top of yesterday’s makeup, it’s always better for young, sensitive skin to start the day off clean and fresh. To start, you will want to cleanse your pores with an exfoliating face wash. Highly recommended for young skin is the Proactiv+ Skin Smoothing Exfoliator. This rids your pores of impurities on and under the surface of sensitive skin without irritating it. It has also been recommended to use the Proactiv+ Pore Targeting treatment and Complexion Perfecting Hydrator with the Skin Smoothing Exfoliator. These three products come in the 3-Step System that Proactiv offers here.

Prime Your Face

After cleansing your skin of all impurities, it is important to prime your face before applying makeup. This creates a smooth base for your makeup. One of the most popular face primers is the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Primer not only makes young skin look more supple, but it helps makeup last longer, as well. Makeup tends to hold onto primer better than it does your skin, so don’t skip out!

Concealer/Foundation

When choosing a concealer or a foundation (or both), it is important to consider how it will affect your skin. Covergirl Smoothers Concealer is perfect for sensitive skin because it is hypoallergenic and oil free. Another popular concealer for sensitive skin is Lorac Oil-Free Neutralizer. This concealer contains botanicals such as Aloe and Chamomile to sooth sensitive skin.

For the extra coverage that we all need, foundation is a key step. It’s difficult to choose a foundation fit for young, sensitive skin. However, Covergirl has you covered. Liquid foundation has always been a big help to those with dry skin. Covergirl Clean Liquid Makeup is made for sensitive skin. It works wonders for younger skin, hiding red and blotchy areas. For those who suffer from oily skin, though, there is the Covergirl Oil Control Liquid Foundation. This foundation is made with oil absorbers that prevent shine without drying out the skin.

Eye Makeup

To enhance the natural beauty of your eyes, simply highlight your browbone and the inner corner of your eyes. You can do this with a light, neutral color such as “Virgin” found in the Urban Decay Naked Palette. With a color similar to that of your skin, lightly pat the eyeshadow onto your eyelid. Choose a slightly darker eyeshadow to add depth to your eyes. Simply apply it to the crease of your eyes. On the outer corner of your eyelids, use a light brown shadow. This will make your eyes pop, but it will do so with such subtlety. Next, you will want to line your upper outer lashline with a dark or black liner. Mac Cosmetics’ Powerpoint Eye Pencil is waterproof and gentle on sensitive eyes. The next step is to volumize your lashes. No look is complete without a bold lash. Barry M offers a waterproof mascara, Lash Vegas, that will stay on all day.

Lips

Instead of using a gloss or stain on your lips, it is much better to use a balm for a more natural look. This will leave your lips looking and feeling soft. The amazing thing about lip balms is that they come in a variety of colors and flavors. So if you ever want to add a bit of color, try some of Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm for all day smooth. The best part about Burt’s Bees products is that they are natural and won’t irritate your lips or skin.
