The Most Interesting SubReddits I know…

One of the great things about travelling is that I get a break from my computer. Unfortunately, that means I usually end up spending more time on my phone… on Reddit.

This isn’t all bad, because my Reddit time is largely educational. Yes, over the last year I’ve cultivated a set of subreddits that I feel are pretty special. They’re often full of interesting and insightful articles and comments, and they feature a distinct lack of animal pictures.

Today I’m going to share my favourites with you, and perhaps we can compare notes at the end. In no particular order…

http://www.reddit.com/r/futurology

Official Description: “A subreddit devoted to the field of Future(s) Studies and evidence-based speculation about the development of humanity, technology, and civilization.”

Chad’s Thoughts: The media is riddled with doom and gloom stories these days. Though I believe it’s useful to be aware of the negative things going on in the world, I think it’s just as beneficial to have an eye to the future, and all the great things we can accomplish as a species if we can manage to stop being assholes to each other for a few minutes.

http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus

Official Description: The unofficial subreddit of the Oculus Rift!

Chad’s Thoughts: I’ve been a gamer for a long time now, and though I still love games, in general they’ve lost a bit of their luster. I’ve just seen it all.

The Oculus Rift is the first bit of gaming hardware that has me really and truly excited again. I don’t think I’ve felt this way since the N64 was announced. I truly believe VR is going to change the world, and this subreddit is full of the latest findings and advances in the rapidly growing world of VR.

http://www.reddit.com/r/privacy

Official Description: Dedicated to the intersection of technology, privacy, and freedom in the digital world.

Chad’s Thoughts: Like millions of other people around the world, I started taking my privacy a lot more seriously after the Snowden revelations. If privacy is important to you, and you’re looking for free and open source versions of popular apps like Skype, then this is the place to follow.

http://www.reddit.com/r/spacex

Official Description: N/A

Chad’s Thoughts: Landing on the moon was one of the most amazing things we’ve done as a species, and then we seem to have given up on space. That is, until Elon Musk came around. If you haven’t heard of SpaceX, let’s just say that this is the company that will take us to Mars.

I spend a truly unhealthy amount of time on this subreddit.

http://www.reddit.com/r/nootropics

Official Description: Welcome to r/Nootropics, a reddit devoted to discussing nootropics and cognitive enhancers.

Chad’s Thoughts: I’m always trying to improve my mental and physical performance, and one of the ways I do that is through nootropics. I’ve written about them before, and I’m just as passionate about them today. This subreddit has a wealth of interesting information on cognitive enhancement through “smart drugs”.

So, I’m going to cut it off here. I hope you find these places as interesting as I do, and I would love to hear your recommendations as well.
