When it comes to home decor, it’s fair to say that most guys let their wife or girlfriend take the lead. Women might want to spend hours agonizing over paint in almost identical shades, whereas the average guy probably doesn’t care less (providing it’s not bright pink or anything too wacky, obviously!) However even if you’re not massively into interior design, it’s important to take control of the situation as a single guy. You spend time working out, choosing nice clothes and grooming yourself so why wouldn’t you put the same kind of effort into your home? It’s a reflection of you, after all. The last thing you want when you invite friends or dates over to your home is to be embarrassed at how shabby or outdated it looks. Here are a few things to think about if you’re hoping to create a masculine, stylish bedroom.
Choose Your Colours
Your best bet is to choose a light, neutral shade for the walls. White, cream and light gray all work well, they will make the space you have look bigger and will work well with anything else you have in your room. Next you will want to choose an accent shade, this could be black, dark gray or chocolate brown if you want to keep it neutral, or if you’re craving a bit of color navy, red or dark green will all work well. Once you’ve decided on a color palette, you can choose your furnishings in this shade; these are things like curtains, bedding, and rugs. You could paint the wall behind the bed in the same color to create a feature wall, but be sure to keep the others light and neutral or it will quickly look overwhelming. Having a color palette in mind before setting out ensures everything matches and complements each other.
Decide on Furniture
Black furniture can look very effective in a man’s bedroom- dark black ash wood or even a black high gloss finish for the wardrobes, bedside tables and chest of drawers. Finish with a black leather sleigh bed. Dark wood also looks very classic and brings a masculine look to a bedroom.
Let’s face it, men love technology. So a room with decent tech is a must- especially when you’re a single guy and have free reign of how you want your room. A big flat screen tv on the wall is perfect for movies and Netflix on a lazy weekend. If you go for a tilting bracket, you will be able to adjust it so it’s the perfect angle to see from your bed. Getting a good signal in bedrooms can be tricky if you’re having trouble you might need to find out where to buy the best HD tv antennas near you. Smart home has become hugely popular in last twelve months and is a cool addition to a bedroom. Using a voice-activated speaker like Amazon Echo, Google Home or Apple’s smart speaker (thought to be released soon) you can perform a number of tasks through voice commands or through your phone. You can turn lights on and off, singly or in groups, dim them, set alarms and even adjust the heating. All without having to move from your comfy bed- isn’t technology great?!
Think About Finishing Touches
Most men are probably going to prefer the sleek and minimal look, but a few accessories are going to be needed to bring some life and personality to the space. You could go with a large floor plant and a couple of mini cacti on a shelf. A masculine scented candle is a good addition, Yankee do a selection with men in mind. A piece of wall art, and a couple of extra touches- perhaps something you’ve picked up on your travels or that means something to you?
Have you put much effort into decorating your bedroom?
